Don't just hop on a social media site and start throwing out content willy nilly, that is stupid. Instead, create a calendar that plans out what you will say and when you will say it. Also, make sure that it is relevant to where people are in their lives as well as the season. Don't talk about Halloween in February or Christmas Cookies in July, stay on topic!

Know Who You Are Targeting

Why on earth would somebody follow you on a Social Media Site? Why do they like you? Maybe because you and your brand offer them something they want or something they like. This being said, you need to make sure you deliver. SKYY Vodka on Twitter put out tweets on the ultimate Bloody Mary and even responded personally to people engaged in the conversation. They knew what their audience wanted and they gave it to them.

Solve Your Problems

Why are humans the dominant species on the planet? Because we learn how to fix something if we have a problem. On Facebook a company called Threadless received some problematic feedback on some products from valued customers. They immediately told the customers what to do and how to fix the problem. Don't necessarily fix the problem for your audience, instead give them the tools to help themselves. You also need to make sure your social media team has all the right information to give out. You build trust by making things easier for your customers.

Don't Be Fake

The best content out there is real. It doesn't promise you things it cannot do. It is honest and real. People don't like talking to machines. They want to talk to a real person and that is why they follow you. If you are being fake, your audience will know. But if you are honest, fun and real, they will recommend you to their friends and so on and so forth. Isn't that kind of the point of social media?
