Twitter's New Experiment Redoes Search Results

If you have been on Twitter as of late, you may have thought something seemed a little off. It's not just your imagination though, Twitter is actually testing a new, revamped design of their search engine.

The new version of the search engine is only available to a few members, so if it looks different then I guess you should feel special. It has some new tabs that allow you to sort through tweets based on account, photos, popularity, videos and a few other categories.

The new tabs for the search include Top, Live, Accounts, Photos and Videos. If you click "Top" you get the most popular tweets, "Live" gives you tweets in order like usual. The "Photos" and "Videos" tabs filter out all the tweets that don't have some type of media. And lastly, the "People" tab lets you sort through tweets from specific users that you follow.

Like I said earlier, only a few lucky users have gotten access to the new search. Twitter has confirmed that they are testing the new search, but they haven't said anything about when it will be available for more people, or everyone. Twitter has done this before and tested new features with a small group of users before they made it available to everyone. We will just have to wait and see how long it will be!

They have been building up to this for a while it seems. Before, you could filter results based on photos and videos, and you could always search for specific accounts. This new search layout is way more specific and gives you much more control. It's also a lot more simple to find exactly what you are looking for. The "news" section is gone now. That let you see tweets from media outlets only, and it didn't make it into the new layout. But don't worry, you can still check what is trending.

You can also see people who are tweeting close to you if you follow them. That is pretty neat.
